“Celebrating 100 years of Active Faith, Hope and Love”
Holy Family to celebrate 100 years as a parish on Sunday, 31 October at 11 am. July 1, 2021 marked the 100th anniversary of Holy Family as a parish in its own right. Prior to that, ours was a mission church of St Francis Xavier Church in Carlsruhe. Because of COVID restrictions, celebrations in July were postponed, but we are now proceeding with a Centenary Mass to to be held on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at 11 am, with Auxiliary Bishop Wayne Lobsinger celebrating. A short historical presentation will follow the Mass.
There will be only one Mass that Sunday to encourage optimum participation; there will be no 9 am Mass that Sunday.
Parishioners are encouraged to bring to the parish office within the next week for temporary loan any relevant historical photos relating to the church, the parish, its lay organizations, previous pastors, the parish school and the former convent. The photos would be digitally scanned and then displayed over the next few weeks on the parish monitors and/or social media. Contact: FJ Gross @ fjhgross@wightman.ca or 519 364 2072.
COVID-19 Safety Measures
Masks: Father would like to remind all parishioners that they are required to wear a mask while inside the building and to keep it on for the duration of Mass. Please read his letter instructing those who are unwilling or unable to wear a mask to stay home.
Vaccines: The official position of the Catholic Church is that all available COVID vaccines are ethical and all Catholics who are able are encouraged to receive the vaccine. All employees serving in the Diocese of Hamilton are encouraged to be fully vaccinated or to submit to a COVID rapid test every Monday and Thursday in order to carry out their responsibilities. Volunteer liturgical ministers are required to be fully vaccinated. Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, encourages every member of the Catholic Church within our Diocese of Hamilton to be fully vaccinated. This policy has been updated, and we are preparing a statement for our volunteers. Details to follow soon.
Operation Christmas Child
The Operation Christmas Child team was happy to greet you last weekend, as folks picked up shoeboxes to pack. Many children will be touched by your Love. God will warm their hearts as they hear His Gospel at the distributions, and many families and communities will be touched by your generosity. Please pray for the child for whom you are packing a box, as you collect items to include. We are so blessed here in Canada, to have the opportunity to share with others, who are less fortunate.
- Shoeboxes are to be returned to Holy Family by the weekend of Nov 6-7 for Fr. Emmanuel’s blessing, before they are transported to our Drop Off Center.
- Remember another option to help, is to put a money donation in an envelope, if you don’t want to pack a box. These donations may be left with Anne at the church office.
- For further assistance or to obtain shoeboxes please call Anne at 519-373-2063 or email annnedh@wightman.ca , Susan at 419-364-4487 or email bsak@wightman.ca or Sharon at s.lhoffarth@yahoo.ca or call 519-375-4742.
