St. Francis Xavier Thank you

We would like to thank all those who helped us celebrate our 150th Anniversary.  So many people donated time, service or products – helping us prepare and provide for the day making it such a memorable event.  May God bless you all for your generosity and for taking the time to share this milestone.    The Carlsruhe Committee

Annual Mission Coop

Fr. Linus Kinyua from the Diocese of Meru will be preaching this weekend at our Masses and giving a Mission Appeal.

The Diocese of Merus is in the Eastern province of Kenya along the Equator line, serving four counties.  Meru Diocese serves a population of 108 million; half of whom are Catholics.  The catholic church has continued to grow despite the poverty and other economic challenges. We are being asked for help and prayers for the success of the mission work.  The pressing needs are:

  • Improving the social economic condition of the the poor, especially orphans and neglected children to have the basic needs especially food and clean drinking water
  • Evangelization – to train lay leaders, catechists and youth who work together with the priests in ministering to the Catholics in mission prayer houses
  • Fostering Vocations – The Diocese has many you men aspiring for priesthood but does not have enough resources to train them
  • Medical care – many people have no health insurance  They depend on the church for medical care.  Staffing the diocese health clinics and hospitals with qualified nurses and basic medications is also a priority for the church.

Your prayers and financial support will help the diocese of Meru achieve some of the above pressing needs as it continues with its missionary work.  (Asante Sana) Swahili language:  Thank You Very Much

Please keep Sarah Allman in your prayers, as she has left Canada and has started on her 14 month Missionary Work Outreach.

Request for hospital bed

If you have a hospital bed to see or give away, please contact the parish office.  St. Vincent de Paul has had a request for one.  Thank you

Summer Bible Study

Deacon Charles will host a Bible Study on Acts 2 called “The Church on Fire” Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8 pm, until to August 9th.  All are invited.

Are you interested in becoming a Catholic?

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith, we invite you to contact the parish office.  This fall we will have a program (RCIA, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) for the purpose of sharing what the Catholic Church teaches and to support those discerning this decision.  The program has an initial inquiry period and then progresses through many important topics of faith, shared, discussed and experienced in meaningful ways.  Everyone’s faith journey is unique and special, and God’s love is powerful and exciting, bringing new life to whomever is open to receive it.  More info:  519-364-1973

Adoration Chapel News

Our Adoration Chapel is open Mondays at 9 am until Thursday at 8 pm.  Come spend quiet time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.  If you would like to visit during night hours – contact Don Waechter at  364-1185.  Day time drop in visits welcome. Thank you

Consider leaving a gift to the parish through your Will

A gift (sometimes referred to as a bequest) to the parish is a profound way to return to the Lord a share of the blessings you received in your lifetime.  Bequests are quite simple to include in your Will, and have become increasingly common for people to do.  Your financial advisor can assist you with this.   A gift like this can help the parish maintain and upkeep our churches for generations to come – thank you for considering this type of gift to the parish.

This Sunday’s Gospel

Matthew 13: 1-23

Discussion Questions:

  1.  Evaluate your spiritual growth.  Are you producing high yields?
  2. What are the “thorns” & “rocks” in your life which tend to choke out your spiritual growth?
  3. What steps could you take to improve the soil?
  4. How often do you make hearing and acting on God’s Word a priority in your life?
