Traditions
Why do we cover images in the Church the last couple weeks prior to the Triduum? Veiling the statues is an encouragement to the faithful to anticipate the upcoming celebration of the Triduum. The change in the appearance reminds us that it is a very special time and helps us take note of the urgency to prepare ourselves as well as once lifted, enhances our senses of the newness of life and the resurrection.
What traditionally do Catholic’s do with blessed palm branches? Like any blessed item it is important to treat it reverently. Many weave a cross to place in their home, or place it under their mattress, asking for God’s protection and blessings. Old brittle blessed palms should be burned or buried, rather than thrown in the regular household garbage.
