Is Mass / Events Cancelled due to inclement weather?
Please note: the parish office will be closed for the afternoon on Thurs. Dec. 19th
Follow-up on Purchase of Property
The finance and building committees appreciate the interest and support of those who came to the parish meeting to discuss the possible purchase of the property at 315 8th Street. It was good to see parishioners interested in the future of their parish. We’d like to let you know that the property was taken off the market and is no longer for sale.
2025 Offering Envelopes are ready for pick up. Current users will find a box labelled with your name. If you would like to be a new user, please look for boxes labelled “unassigned” and include your information on the first several donations.
Forms for Pre-Authorized Remittance are available for anyone who would like to start that means of donating. Those already signed on do not need to take action unless they desire a change to their monthly offering.
Thank you for your church support.
Year End Donations: Please note that donations must be received by Dec. 31st in order to be included on your 2024 Tax Receipt. Thank you
Chapel News: Please make sure you notify Don Waechter (364-1973) if you arrange a substitute for your holy hour, so that we know who to contact if the chapel is closed due to inclement weather. Thank you
Chapel Hours Over Christmas Please note that the Adoration Chapel will close on December 24th at 12 noon, and will remain closed until Monday, January 6th.
Pope Francis on the topic of Confession
“Someone can say, “I confess my sins only to God.” Yes, you can say to God, ‘forgive me,’ and say your sins. But our sins are also against our brothers, against the Church. This is why it is necessary to ask forgiveness of the church and of our brothers, in the person of the Priest…. Forgiveness is not something we can give ourselves.”
{“Someone may say”} Father, I am embarrassed! Even embarrassment is good. It’s healthy to have a bit of shame… it does us good, because it makes us more humble. Don’t be afraid of confession… When someone is in line for confession one feels all these things – even shame – but then, when one finishes confessing, they leave (feeling) free, great, beautiful, forgiven, clean, happy. The Sacrament of reconciliation is a sacrament of healing.”
“Be courageous, and go to confession”
Confession – the Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered a 1/2 hour before all Masses.
Society of St. Vincent de Paul Do you have a few hours per month to help serve the poor?
We are looking for new members for our committee. We meet once a month, with 2 mtgs in November, none in July/Aug. Getting involved could include helping with visits at the church (we always work in pairs) and/or helping with grocery shopping. Please leave your name at the parish office or contact Kay Garvey at 519-506-5883
Reflection on Today’s Gospel Luke 3:10-18 Discussion Questions
- Have you recently asked yourself, or a religious leader “What should I do?”
- Reflect on the answers John gives the questioners. Are those same things applicable today?
- What does it mean to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire?
- How can we use this week of advent to examine our lives, seek direction, purpose and a new outpouring of grace?
