A further explanation and education about The Friday fast, the law of abstinence also now referred to as “Keeping Friday”
There is pamphlets on the table in Narthex from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops about the meaning and purpose of “Keeping Friday” a day for penance and prayer and good works. You may also read it on line at https://www.cccb.ca/document/keeping-friday/
The law of abstinence (obtaining from eating meat on Fridays) is still to be practiced…. Not only in lent but all year long! Due to age and wellbeing, not all are bound by this law. Also substitutions can be made – and most importantly it’s about knowing why and doing so with a heart of recognition and love. Educate yourself & your family – embrace this Catholic Practice.

Discussion Questions
- What does ‘leaving the water jar” reveal about Jesus’ impact on the woman?
- How did she affect others and what can we learn from her example?
- Given the social barriers between Jews and Samaritans, what do verses 40-42 teach you about Jesus?
