If you are a member, it’s time to elect a new executive for the term 2026-2028.
Nomination forms will be available at the Christmas dinner on 20 November
Not a Member? If you are concerned about what you see on the news, about what is happening in society, I would like to urge all women over the age of 16 to join the C.W.L.
Sometimes at the Parish level it’s difficult to see the large picture, but you should know that the CWL is one of only two women’s groups officially recognized by the Federal Government and can speak to them on issues that concern us. This is a privileged position, and the League takes seriously it’s commitment to speak for Christian social justice.
At the National Convention held in Toronto in August this year the League passed the following resolutions which will be presented and discussed with the government at meetings throughout the year:
2025.01 Federal Government to Create a Unified and Centralized Cybercrime Reporting System for Individuals in Canada
2025.02 Amend the Canadian Criminal Code Section 223(1) defining when a child becomes a human being
2025.03 Strengthen Support for Chaplains to Provide Faith-Based Care to Members and Families of the Canadian Armed Forces
2025.04 Federal Government to Complete the Development of the Office of Palliative Care
All this might sound very dry and you’re probably wondering what it has to do with you. It’s of vital importance to us all as we strive to raise strong families and to pass on moral values in the face of what seems to be an increasingly corrupt society.
Don’t worry that if you join you would have to be involved in legislative affairs – although if you have an interest in social justice, we have a position just for you!
We are active in many ways in our Parish, come to a meeting and find out for yourself. We pray for each other, support each other with friendship, understanding and sharing joys and losses. We foster a sense of belonging to a community of women locally, provincially and nationally. We are united by the principles of Catholic teachings.
At Holy Family of few of the things we do each year are: we hold a baby shower to support the Hanover Pregnancy Centre. We give financial bursaries to our graduating Grade 8 and 12 students. We give gifts to students receiving their First Holy Communion and also to students receiving Confirmation. Members call and visit the housebound, sick and lonely. We prepare and serve funeral lunches and this year, we paid for a shower to be installed in the rectory bathroom.
Obviously we would like you to attend meetings if you possibly can (we need your ideas and comments, both negative and positive) However, your membership counts When the League speaks to the Government we can say we speak for 60000 women across Canada. We represent your views.
