CWL Highlights Winter 2018

The Holy Family Parish Council of the Catholic Women’s League has been active these early months of 2018.

January was finance month.  The 2018 budget was put forth for discussion and approval.  After setting aside a small amount of funds for operating, the balance of the money raised through fund raising was approved for donation to 16 different charities and 7 worthwhile causes.

The funeral committee reported that lunch was prepared and served at 13 funerals in 2017.

By a motion, it was decided that the local Home and Community Support Services would be the recipient of the monthly collection from the change for charity jar.

Members shared a time of spiritual reflection on the year just passed and the new year ahead. After a time of sharing their thoughts, members joined in prayers of praise and thanksgiving to our most loving God.

The February meeting featured the warmth of a potluck supper to take the chill off of a cold winter night.  Bright red hearts and chocolates reflected the evening theme of Valentine’s Day.  Members visited with each other and had fun with ‘Get Acquainted Bingo’ and pictogram puzzles.  The business included discussion on donating to rectory Improvements and a proposed increase in the per capita fee at the Diocesan level.

The theme for March was the protection of life.  Incorporated into the meeting was a baby shower for the local Pregnancy Centre.  Members showered the center with gifts of sleepers, sweaters, crib sheets, blankets, quilts and onesies.  A representative from the center gave a brief report of the services that are provided and the assistance that is offered to give a viable alternative to abortion.  The business portion included discussion on nominations for the Frances Lovering Award and the upcoming North Region meeting and the Diocesan Convention.

The members devoted their spiritual time to reflection on the gift of life, from the very moment of conception to natural death. Prayers of petition and thanksgiving were offered for all families, for the pregnancy center and  for its’ volunteers.

The members of the Holy Family Parish Council of the Catholic Women’s League continue to share their gifts and talents in love of one another and strive to holiness through service.
